Disconnect the control box/power cord from the blanket.

Check to ensure that the cord is not exposed through worn or damaged fabric.

Use a lint roller to remove pet hair and other debris prior to washing.

Using the pre-soak setting, soak the blanket in cold water for 10 to 15 minutes.

Hand wash

If you need to hand wash your electric blanket, be sure to avoid submerging the control box/power cord in water. If the power cord is removable, remove it from the blanket.

Fill a large tub with cold water and a small amount of mild detergent. Carefully submerge the blanket in the water, keeping the power cord away from the water, for 10 to 15 minutes. Using gentle pressure, rinse the blanket under water for a few minutes, paying special attention to any stubborn stains.

Drain or empty the tub, gently squeeze the soapy water from the blanket, and rinse thoroughly with cold water.

Stain Removal

If your electric blanket has unsightly stains or a strong odor from pet urine or other unpleasant substances, you may need to pre-treat the affected areas before hand or machine washing.

Since harsh chemicals and solvents can damage delicate wiring and components, it's best to try a mild alternative. Fill a small spray bottle with equal parts distilled white vinegar and water. Spray the solution liberally on the soiled area and let it sit for a few minutes before cleaning.

Often, electric blankets can be partially dried in a dryer, but it is important to avoid high temperatures. The dryer should be large enough to allow the blanket to tumble freely.
